Basie, a female German Shorthair Pointer, arrived in August 2003 on a American Airline flight from a breeder just outside of Chicago. I first spotted her on the Internet. The pictures looked great and my phone calls to the owner convinced me to book a flight to check her out. My husband Ron said that it made no sense to go to see her in person as it would be very unlikely that I would not bring her home, once I saw and held her. He was right and we had her shipped directly. This is us on the first day after picking her up at Logan. It was love at first sight!

Another photo of Basie's first day with us. In 2005 a German Shorthaired Pointer won 'Best in Show' at the Westminster Dog Show. I hope they do not become too popular. Sometimes a newly popular breed will become over bred and develop problems. The GSP's are high performance dogs and not for everyone. They are super lovable and great family pets only if they have room to run and a lot of daily exercise.

Basie likes to adopt this somewhat regal pose and watch the bird feeder in the front yard.
My husband, Ron and Basie just before Ron goes for a training ride. Ron participates in the Pan Mass Challenge every August. Basie would run every inch of the way if she were allowed to.
